Here is my question, I'm considering the purchase of this unit which I believe is the same as the Lowrance lms1600. Obviously the price is cheaper on the Eagle but you also have the option of purchasing the unit with or without the cd and software. My question is: does one need the software - it's an extra $150 bucks. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I just got a price from a advertiser on this site for the Eagle UltraMap that has sonar and GPS with the CD and accessory pack for a great deal. $439. I plan to purchase the unit. I was told it is the same as the 1600 with 1 year less warranty. Email me if you are interested in the retailer.

I was told by a Lowrance factory rep that the journey has less memory than the lms 160/global map 1600. If I remember right the journey has 2mb and the lms/global map has 8mb. You might want to check into this. I was under the same assumption and was going to buy the journey as well but would like the extra mb's. Either way they are both great units.
