Never been on the big pond at night. Seems like I heard there are some special safety regulations there. Anybody?? Thanks.

You must have running lights, and observe rules of the road.

Go out before dark and make sure there are no nets in the area you are going to fish. Mark them on your GPS or stay away from them if they are present. FOR SOME STUPID REASON, THEY DON'T LIGHT THEM ! Yes I'm yelling! If you are around South Bass Island watch out for the partyers.
It is an awsome, awe inspiring and peacefull experience. think saftey first and keep an eye and ear open for other boats. (especially the drunkards or reckless)

Hi Gilligan. I've been out on erie until 3 am. Conneaut ohio. Funny thing about it, we caught no fish after about 11 pm. They were simply gorgeous nights, waves less than a foot, but caught no fish. The only thing I can think of, would be be reluctance to change from daytime/known trolling patterns. I think the fish come up higher in the water column,, and long-lining cranks would have produced maybe better. Pick your night, and try it. I know I'll do it again. No traffic.......beautiful, really relaxing.

Fred, I'd be willing to loan you my partner "Bobber" for your trip if you'd like. Since he's used to driving blind during the daytime, he'd be an ideal night driver! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Thanks a heap, Sluggo. Guess I'll pass since you may need a net man at Oneida on Saturday..unless you arent planning on catching any!

Well, see if I can answer my own question..actually friend (Loser) emailed me the information I was after.
All boats 18' and up must carry a flourescent orange flag minimum of 12" square and 3 flares. Not sure if this is NY law, or something mandated by Coast Guard for Erie.
