Question: with a 75/80hp. 4stroke tiller, on a 17ft boat, how SLOW can you get down trolling ?? Thanks.

My previous boat was a Tracker Targa 17 tiller with a Yamaha 80 four stroke. 2mph was about as slow as I could get it to go. I was surprized at this because I expected the 4 stroke to be slower than that. It's not a problem though. I used a pair of small drift socks off the sides of the boat on the front cleats if I wanted to slow down for spinner rigs.

Is that forward or backward? I can't get that slow with mine(Yamaha F-80/Skeeter 1775). What are you running for rpm and what prop are you running, I've found the trolling speed to vary alot depending on the pitch.

Thats almost exactly what I get and I have the exact same set-up except an Evy 70. I run an SST stainless (mostly for the brush on Potholes here in Washington). The best way to slow down trolling speed with a tiller is to put on plates and back up. I also run a kicker (8 evy) and a bow mount electric, so I can match any need. This didn't come cheap. I hardly ever use the kicker anymore, and sometimes I wonder if it was worth it. That was until I tore off the lower unit on a log. The kicker saved the day.
