Minn Kota has come out with built in transducer that is incased in the power head. It avoids external mounting and is reported to have less interferance than standard transducers. Has anyone had experiance with this unit. Does it provide an improved signal?

A few more questions... DOes the Universal Sonar Built in to the Minn Kota have the same degree transducer as the external Trolling motor transducer? WIll the "CONE ANGLE" be the same as say a Lowrance Trolling Motor Puck Transducer?

I spoke to a Lowrance rep that advised me that, in trying to accomodate all the different sonars, the unit is not nearly as good as the external mounted pucks. I am in the process of making the same purchase decision and would like some more input.
Thanks,

I am as well -- I know that I am getting the MK AP 65 -- the question is whether to get it with or without the Universal Sonar. Not having the transducer wire to deal with seems attractive -- but if the sonar is not as good...

I am disappointed that I bought a 65AP a year before the built in transducer. I inquired about modifying mine and it is not an option. I guess I'm stuck replacing transducers every time a ruin the cable.
It appears that you purchase a different motor unit depending on the finder you are using. Does that mean that there are different transducers or just different wiring plugs? Not sure...
We need someone to contact Minnkota and get a definitive answer.
Good Luck!

Jim O- 15%+ loss of signal sensitivity is what I've been told by my Rep...
