I have struggled with this for about a year now. I have an am/fm, cd player in my boat. I have withheld mounting a permanent antenna and just use a strand antenna right now. I really don't get squat for reception. I would like to put a permanent antenna in the boat but don't where, what type, what length. My marine radio antenna currently is on the starboard side and I am worried if I put the fm antenna there, I will get more interference. Anybody have any ideas. Please help.
Thank you in advance.

I had a rubber duck antenna mounted on my old boat - nice and short, and could bend, if hit - without breaking.
It worked just fine.
My current boat, uses a standard - collapasable steel antenna, that retracts fully into the gunnel. There is only 1/2 inch sticking up - if the antenna is not in use. A side benefit of this antenaa, is that in a metro area - there is enough side pickup, that the radio works just fine without lifting.
In a remote location - the extension of the antenna is such, that the radio reception is just fine.
Either style work just fine.
Take care

Lance,
You have probable heard this from me before, but I would suggest using the radio for an anchor and keeping Bago quiet enough to hear the fishys swimming! ;). Cmon man, are we out their fishing or dancing?
IT won't be long till spring.
See ya,

Jim, I agree with you, but if you had to fish with the guy I fish with you would want something to drown out his non-stop yapping. JUST KIDDING STEVE, OLE' BUDDY. :-)

ORANGEBARRELL,had a loran gps with external antenna go on the blink on me.Replaced gps with internal antenna type gps.Hooked marine stereo up to old gps antenna, great reception.
Nothing like hardest, heaviest metal music you can put on. Scares the other fishermen off the good spots and the fish don't really care. Occasionally I'll lighten things up with a little Gangsta Rap :)
