Over a few beers in the garage this weekend my neighbors and I were in disagreement over the number of walleyes a US citizen is permitted to have in possession AND how many walleyes a MN residence is permitted to bring back across the boarder into MN. This is specific to MN residence ONLY since the MN/Canadian politicians still cannot agree.

Need to know ASAP since we leave Wednesday AM and there is no good info posted anywhere. I realize the resorts will have this data, but the bet ends before we leave and my beer bill depends on it. ;-)

Thanks

Read my post I sent you about going to Buena Vista. The possession is 2 a day and 4 in possession that is why you might want to try fishing for smallmouth or some crappies. The MNR from Canada had a problem several years ago with people fishing on the Minnesota side going over into Canada waters and catching walleyes. Not to get in to it but the limit for the US side was kinda high. It was like 12 or 14 walleye & sauger, and you could not have moer than 6 walleyes.

LAST EDITED ON May-21-01 AT 08:23AM (CST)[p]Totally aware of the "boarder" issue. Thanks for part of the clearification, but what can you bring back over the boarder? They say 3, I say 2 each with only one over 28"

None of the regulations or websites identify this specifically since it only pertains to MN residance and has fluctuated over the years. Darn politicians anyhow.

By the way, I am bringing the crappie and Muskie boxes/rigs for sure. :D

Depends on what license you have in your possession. If you have the regular seasonal liscense, you can take 4 walleye across the boarder with only one greater than 18.1 inches.

If you have the conservation license you can only take two
across the boarder with only one over 18.1 inches.

Thank you. What is the difference in price between season and conservation?

If you have a Ontario license and a Minnesota license you can only cross the border with one limit or the other, no double limits, it doesn't make scence but thats how they operate. Be very careful about slot sizes, skin on, etc. its best to have the licensed packer at what ever resort you stay at do the packing, less hassle.
