I just picked up a Guest 2610 2 bank charger at a garage sale. Can this be used on my boat easily and effectively? I think the 2611 model replaced this one. I have found on web sites this charger needs a common ground to be used properly. Can anyone explain what a common ground is? I run two 12 volts in parell for my 12 volt trolling motor.

Rodney,

Yes, the 2610 charge will work in your application. It will charge your batteries in 10 to 12 hours and then maintain them at full charge.

The common ground means that each battery is connected to the same ground location, whether it is 2 batteries in parallel or 2 batteries run from a selector switch. This differs from a 24 volt series as the batteries are not both grounded in the same location and so they require a charger that uses independant grounds.

This is where the 2610 differs from the 2611. Both chargers are current models, however the 2610 has a common ground where the 2611 has independant ground and can be used in a 24 volt series.

Hope this helps.
