what do you like to use to attach cranks to your line? what type of snaps or snap swivels give the lure the best action? do you recomment tying direct? what knot do you use? what is the difference between the varying types of snaps? what size do you use? what if pike are in the area, how do you best avoid bite offs?? thanks for your help.

I always use snaps. Never use swivels.
You should match the size of your snap to the size of your lure. You dont want to use small snaps when pulling muskey cranks.
Try to avoid trying direct since this may hinder the movement of your lure. If you do tie direct there is a special knot this basically ties a loop rather then a knot. The loop much like a snap will allow the lure freedom to move without restriction.

There are a couple types of snaps. For cranks you will want one similar to the Berkley cross over, others make a similar style.

Ditto, Cross-lock snap of appropriate size. Use any snap that has a round bottom to allow maximum action. TUNE THE LURE !!! and get a copy of Precision Trolling. Catch one for me. For general questions or specific Erie questions, got to boatohio, click on boating forums, then on ask the expert. See you there.
