I am getting ready to pick up my new boatthat I ordered in the next couple of weeks. My question is this, Does any of the experienced anglers use a check list? It would seem to me that one would be usefull to make sure you check EVERYTHING before handing over the check. If you will be kind enough to give tips. I will make a list that I would be happy to share.

Are you afraid the dealer is shorting you somehow? I understand your concern, but what kind of things are you talkng about here? You have a warranty. I know you dont want to make a major mistake, but tell us whats bugging you, man. Buy from a dealer you are comfortable with. No one has a gun to your head on this. Buying a big toy should be fun.

Have fun with your new rig!
I would just make sure the service dept. checks on the bilge pumps running, livewell pumps and all the electrical hook-ups such as the main power switch and battery connections. Any accessories you have had them install should also be checked for power. Make sure they ran the engine off the main fuel tank also, to insure the connections are good and in order. Just common sense stuff that you can be sure of BEFORE your first trip to the ramp. Ask all and any questions about ALL aspects of the boat and it's operation. Some reputable dealers will be with you on the maiden voyage to insure everything is working and understood.
Good luck!

I bought 3 new boats to date. One from dealer in Ontario, CA and the other 2 from dealer in NJ. The dealers worked off a detailed checklist so they as well as the customer does all they need to do. When you go to the dealer be patient and try not to rush through the transaction. Purchasing a new boat 3 times was enjoyable for me as it should be.

Write down all your questions as you think of them up to the day that you pick up your boat. You'll be amazed at the number of questions you'll have at the end of the week. Also do not be in any hurry when you go to pick up your boat. Plan on spending some time there to play with all the switches/seats etc... Have fun..
We have a good (??sometimes I wonder, but they are good to us...) dealer, and we trusted them, and do again... but....
They gave us the wrong trailer and the wrong year motor. I specifically asked them about the trailer size and the year of the motor (cause we wanted a 96 but they didnt have any left, so we got the 97 for $600 more), and they even looked at each and told me, yep, its the right one.
Anyway, I did not check the serial numbers that day, because I trusted them. They called the next day and said we had to bring it back, because they put a 96 on it.... ugh. Then I checked the trailer, and sure enough they gave us 2800# instead of 3100# (of course, that is only a difference in tire size, but still...
So... do yourself a favor, and check the serial number of the motor, the boat and the trailer, and make darn sure you are getting EXACTLY what is on your purchase agreement.
Have fun with the new rig!
