Have finally figured out how to link my 2 batteries parallel(dealer had them in series). Now I want to know what are the benefits. My question is will having 2 batteries hooked in parallel double their life or would i get more time using one battery and changing to the second when the first is complete. It would seem logical that it should make no difference and I could eliminate the hassle of manually changing them on the water by having both hooked up. Thank you Eric

Keep them hooked together. Instead of running low with each individually, you won't run low at all with the two together.

By having the two hooked together you will not double the run time of your trolling motor. You will probably just about triple it. If you look at the discharge curve of battries, you will find that if you draw only half of the current needed from each battery, that the slower discharge rate for each battery will alow a MUCH longer run time.

In order for this to work properly the two batteries should be of the same type and age. I ran a system like this about 7 or 8 years ago. The run time on my Minnkota was almost unbelievable.
