I love my 7520 ecxept for its shallow water performance, wich stinks. I cannot get a consistent reading in water under about 7-8 ft. The graph blanks out and digital depth sometimes starts jumping around. Its totally worthless in shallow water. Its been to the factory with no change in performance. I've fiddled with sensitivity and max auto gain with no improvement. Anyone else have the same problem?? Better yet, any solutions??

I can go to 2 feet with no problem. Hard telling what the problem is there. Do you have it on a aluminum boat or fiberglass? I have fiberglass. Don't know if that has anything to do with it, but thought you might have interference from it if its metal. You sent the unit back but what about the transducer? They can go bad too. Just some thoughts I'm no authority. Craig

Something wrong there. I have a 7520 which would work in a bird-bath. In fact, it's shallow water performance is one major reason that I like it so well over the "other brands" I've owned.

Do you also have a PinPoint trolling motor, and if so, does it act the same on the TM transducer? If you don't have a PinPoint TM, do you have a buddy with a PinPoint so you could swap around and isolate whether its the 7520 or the transducer.

I have a new 7420, and have experienced the same problem. I was able to get it to read by manually adjusting the depth screen to the 10ft or 5ft range, and playing with the sensitivity. It is frustrating, and these are good units, however for the price.....
I too had mine cut out and give blanks - 16-18ft, 40% sens, and 50%gray, max autogain...funny thing was, it was just the bottom that cut out (the clutter at the top was still there) and it only happened when I was continually passing over one area - guess it was a stealth bottom! This never happened on my cheapo eagle.

No Pinpoint trolling motor. Pinpoint is going to send me a new transducer and I can find someone with a pinpoint graph so that will help isolate things. Good Idea.

I've got two - 1 on the motor and 1 on the console. I;ve seen the motor lose bottom - but the prop is almost hitting and still showns on the 7500.

2 foot is usable - but I don't know why you would need it anyway

I suppose in muddy water - 2 ft. water - might use the finder.

I suspect you have a bad xducer.
