for the size of these boats, why is the horepower rating so low?

Light weight of hull and structural ability to handle the HP's I suspect. If you max out the HP's - you'll have plenty of fun with a boat like this. The right prop will make a big difference.

I have the 1700 Angler tiller model with a 75hp honda. this is a great rig.

gary, what speed do you get? what do you think i should get with a 50h.p. merc? mine is also a tiller. thanks

Greg,

I have a 2001 Angler 1700 tiller with a Merc 75 hp four stroke. I run in the upper 30's at WOT with just myself and my gear, and mid 30's with 2 people and gear. I would expect that your 50 would run in the lower 30's. Hope this helps.
