I curently own a 2001 1700 and am in the process of upgrading my motor.I currently have a 90 mec 3 cylinder on it.I'm upgrading my motor to a merc 115 EFI.Also what should I see for top end speeds with this motor.I usually run with 2 people in the boat
3 batteries, trolling motor and 2 full livewells during tourneys. Also do some occasional tubing and family outings with 4 in the boat.
I would also like to find out from those who have setup similar to mine, what props are you guys using, would their be a good prop for both applications.I'm looking for either SS or aluminum.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

I have a Mr. Pike 17 but I run the Opti 135. I turn a Lazer2 21". This probably would at least be a good place for you to start as while you motor is a little smaller, I think your boat is also a little lighter? Anyway, check out the Lazers. Andy whatever you do, get a S.S. prop, keep your stock aluminum prop as a backup or for running shallow rocky/unfamiliar water.

Your 115efi, does it have the large shaft or small shaft? If it has a small shaft, the Lazer2 20" might be just about right (odd #s for large shaft motors, even #s for small shaft).

Just curios what kind of performance you get out of your 135? I have Mr Pike with a 115 Yamaha, turning a 19' Ballistic at 44-45mph. Try some different style props before you throw the green down,I tried 6 different ones with different results Ballistic worked the best for me. Also check out the engine hieght, I bumped mine to #3 but have not run it yet.

Seriously considering a 135 Opti on my new 1700 Angler SS, which is basically last years Mr Pike. I've heard speeds of 54-56 GPS. That seems awfully fast! How does your boat handle it? Is it kinda scary? Please keep in mind that I've been going about 25-27 the last 10 years! ;0
