Has anyone out there bought one of these? If so, what is the intention of the rubber strip? Are you to secure the support to the motor shaft with the stainless steel clamp? It seems like it would be a pain in the butt to have to remove the clamp each time you want to deploy the motor. Does anyone know??

I use one - I put the rubber strip around the shaft of the motor, and used the pipe clamp provided to secure the ball on top of the rubber strip. The stainless pipe clamp(?) is intended to stay on the shaft at all times; you simply just unscrew the main wing nut and deploy your motor.

I mounted the ball at the top of the shaft of the motor, just below the head. It doesn't interfere with the heght of the motor, but I could see this being a problem if you deploy your motor all the way down.

So far, I give this gadget a thumbs up!

The rubber strip goes under the clamp. The clamp and Ram Mount Ball stay on the t-motor. You simply loosen the Ram separate to two sections. (again the ball part of the Ram Mount stays on the t-motor and the other section of the Ram stays secured to the boat...make sense?? just like the picture in Cabela's shows.)

Works great.

I fully agree with the above posts. You can't go wrong in purchasing one of these mounts. The R-A-M mounts do an excellent job of providing the neccessary support for the trolling motor shaft in rough water. Wishing you all GREAT FISHING!!!:-)

I actually threaded the end of the hose clamp onto the rubber strip and trimmed off the excess. That way I had a layer between the clamp and the shaft of the motor, and the outer layer covering the outside of the clamp. Not sure if that's what they intended, but it looks good.
