View Full Version : 1675 Lund Exploer SS
I am ordering this boat this week. One final question about the motor.
How does the Mercury 90 4 stroke compare in size to the 2 stroke. I know it weighs 90 pounds more but was wonderinbg how bulky these motors look on a 17" boat. None of the dealers in my area seem to have 4 strokes around to look at. Lund tells me the 75 mercury 4 stroke would push the boat 35-40 mph so I may settle for the 75 even though the weight and size are the same as the 90. ( $1,000 cheaper than the 90 4 stroke though)
Any opinions!
Thanks again for all your help.
Why is buying a boat so stressful!.

Congratulations!! If you can afford it - go for the 90 hp. You'll never regret it. With the 75 hp, you'll always wonder how it would have run with the 90 hp. As to how it will look w/ the four stroke, I think it could be summed up simply as "awesome". That will be one hot rig!

I have a 2001 1675 with 2 stroke 90 merc and can get her up to about 34 mph. I do live in Colorado so the altitude may make the difference.

I bought a 2001 1675 with a 90 2 stroke. Great boat. Goes like all heck. The boat and motor I can't say enough about. Make sure you get the right trailer for it. Especially if it is a shorelander. Like so many others I have a hard time getting it on straight.Maybe 1 in 7 tries you get it on straight.Shorelander lists 3 different models for the explorer. Make sure you get the right trailer. especially ifit is a rollon.

90 4 stroke by Merc?
I had one. Hard starting when cold. Fouled plugs in cold water. Had it tuned and carbs adjusted, ran good for 4 outings. 5th time, hammered throttle and it killed. Let it warm up for 40 minutes at 1/2 throttle. Stopped, and hit the throttle again. Killed. Tried it 3 times, and killed again and again. Traded entire rig I was so mad!
I would consider any other 4stroke, but not this one!!!
Now have a Yamaha 4 stroke and no problems in cold water.
Good luck in any event.
Finally, after weeks of agonizing about a 90hp 4 stroke, I decided to spend the extra Money ($1500 +) on some new toys for the rig. I had a 90 2 stroke for 9 years on my other boat and I know I will be satisfied with it. There is a little too much hype about 4 strokes right now and the extra cost is significant when you are trying to buy a reasonably priced rig. For those who can afford the $20,000 -$30,000 rigs a couple thousand more probably doesn't mean as much.
Did the 2001 1675 explorer have the IPS hull?
I should have the boat in a few weeks!
Happy fishing!
Isn't the powerhead on the 90 Merc a Yammy?

On size....the engine is BIGGER than the 2 stroke. I've run two in a row and will have a 2002 on my tiller boat this year as well. I think....the cover for the 90 4 stroke is the same one for the 200hp. 2 stroke....I think. That tell ya anything? But no problems I can foresee for you. The engine runs just fine. Easy to handle...no differnt than any other model/size tiller I've run.
You gotta have a Lund with a black outboard!
