my 2001 1775 tiller's seat is set way off to starboard, which is fine for operating the main motor, but i'm thinking about a kicker for the port side. It seems to me that i would have to add another seat base closer to get close enough to operate the kicker, unless the handle on the kicker was like 4 feet long and off set as well. Anyone have a problem with this setup?? I have posted this question before, but i neglected to mention that i think the 2001 is a little different than the 2000 or 2002 in this respect. Also, if i added another seat base closer to to port, it would have to be on top of the gas tank........ Any help? Thanks.

Isn't there a bilge/aerator pump access panel about right in the middle near the back? Maybe that is where the tiller seat pedestal is? I have a 2001 1775 console and in mine, there are two pedestal bases on each side of the center "rails" (framing around gas tank). I would think one of the bases that has the half moon wedge could go in that area right to the port side of that center access panel? Sorry, I am not sure where the tiller base is at.
In mine, the gas tank isn't in the way until you go forward of the back splash storage areas about 2 feet. I am going strictly by memory but I know there is a hollow area before you get to the gas tank on the console model. I am sure the tiller model is the same?

thanks for the swift reply, hawgeye. Your right about the access area behind the gas tank. I wonder if that access panel would support a seat?? I assumed it wouldnt because the present base is a half moon type and only abuts up to the panel the panel......

get an extention handle with the swivel joint in it and you should have no problem steering the kicker

I just installed another pedistal base in the back of the boat between the two outside ones. There is an access panel for the gas tank that can be put in and out very easily. The gas tank is about 2" down from the plywood so just watch the length of your bolts.

My question is "why" put the kicker on the port side?
I have put 9.9 Mercs on the starboard side of my 1775 tillers over the years and had no, noticable, negative effects. All my transom mounted electrics or gas tillers have been on the starboard side so I can run them comfortably from the stock seat. When you move over to the other side too far, you will have to lean back just see the graph inside the compartment too. I have taken a short piece of black plastic water line pipe and taped it on the throttle handle of the kicker to extend it for more comfort too.
You gotta have a Lund with a black outboard!

I have a 1775 Pro V SE with a 150 EFI and a 9.9 Merc kicker mounted on the Port side. I took the floorboard out and mounted a pedistal base as far back as I could to be able to use my kicker without needing to use an extention on the handle. It worked great for me. Best $20 I ever spent. I did reinforce the under side of the floorboard with a piece of aluminum and used bolts and double nutted the bottom side. I would recommend that some sort of reinforcement be made to the under side of the floorboard. I had just enough clearance above my gas tank.
Good Luck.

What I did was bought a connector kit and hooked the main motor and kicker at the front. I steer with the main motor handle and use a remote throttle on the kicker. using both moters to steer is like having two tillers. When I lift up the kicker I just pop the connector link off the bracket. This setup works great for me, and I do it all from the seat in its origional place.
