I am looking to put a Raptor 13 1/4" x 17 pitch stainless steel prop on my Lund 1800 Pro V with a Yamaha F80 tiller. Has anyone ran the Raptor on this motor? Performance? Currently I am running a standard 17 pitch Yamaha aluminum prop. Top end is 35.5 mph (6000 RPM), one person with a light load, 32mph with three guys. Is the performance increas worth the $$$?

I know the stainless verse aluminum prop issue has been discussed many times on this board, but I would still like some opinions on this boat, motor and prop combo.

Thanks in advance.....Buzz

I ran the stainless Yammy prop on my last f80 and it was well worth the money. Blowout on turns with the aluminum was really bad and was eliminated with the stainless.

Targa2,
What pitch prop did you run and on what boat? As well as reducing blowout, did it help with holeshot and topend?

You probably won't get alot more speed out of that boat and motor if you go to a stainless steel. The 1800 is for the most part not a light boat with a heavy front end. Most of them I have seen have had 15 or 16 pitch. These props will give you better performance with two or three guys in the boat. You might want to find a dealer that has a demo program so you get the right prop for how you run your boat....... One more thing, make sure the prop you buy will give you good bow lift. The will keep you drier............

If you look at most folks with respect to deep v hulled boats - the mid 30s is pretty good for a 75-80 hp motor.
It is unlikely that any combination of different props will get you more than mayby one or possibly two miles per hour.

I do 2nd the comment on the use of a high rake stainless prop - to help lift the bow of the boat.
Better hold in the turns, much drier ride, because you can lift the bow.

take care

p.s.
The stainless prop is much more resistent to rock dings as well.

My boat was a Targa 17 tiller. It weighed 1058 dry without motor.I believe the 1800 Pro-v is about 200 lbs heavier so the 17 pitch is probably about right. I ran a 19 . A 21 was good with one person but suffered under load.Don't be afraid to get your max rpm on that motor to 5800 or so. 6000 is redline I think.Mine was best when it was really reved out.58-5900 when trimmed up with one person.
