Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way that I could repair my reels.(MX200)Everything is working ok but the drag seems to be way to easy, you can pull it out easy with the drag all the way down. The reels are abotu 1 1/2 years old. Not used to much.Besides the drag I like the reels. Any help is appriciated.

Send your reels into a certified repair shop. Many times it will only cost you the shipping and it gets fixed RIGHT.

email me if you need an address.

Send them to the Abu Garcia factory service center in Spirit Lake, IA. They have a policy of 24 hour turn around. Many times they won't even charge you. You can call 1-800-Berkley for information on where and how best to ship. Good Luck! Fred

Abu-Garcia in Spirit Lake has about the best service setup I have ever seen. Sent two reels back to them a couple years ago and had them back within two business days at no charge. One of the reels was fairly new, the other over 10 years old and they both now work like new.
For what its worth, Guest battery chargers also do a great job and have exceeded any customer service expectations I have for a company. Not that your post was about chargers, but often we always hear about who is not doing well as opposed to who is doing a great job.

Get in touch with their HQ in Sprit Lake, Iowa. Last year I burst a spool on a 30-some-year old AbuMatic, and they replaced it.

Total cost $0.00, including shipping.

Great company!

Your drag plates are probably shot. Go to the AbuGarcia web site and they may have a schematic for your reel which will give part #'s for them. In Mpls. area call Tackle Plus on Lake St. for parts or call co direct. If you are somewhat handy, drag plates are pretty simple to replace. I replace them on my saltwater equipment every couple years. Parts should be less than $5 and the job should easily be less than an hour.

What kind of line do you have on the reel? If you're using a braided line, you need to spool some mono on first or the braided line will spin on the spool. I had the same thing happen to my Shimano. I covered the bottom of the spool with mono, used a bloodknot to tie on the braided line. Problem solved.

Another opotion is covering the bottom of the spool with double-stick electrical tape before adding the line.

The repair center that used to be in Two Rivers moved to Spirit Lake, it's still got the same manager and all the guys working there were trained by the same people that worked in Two Rivers. The phone number is 1-877-777-3850.
