View Full Version : Fiberglass Boat
I'm wanting to purchase a one or two year old fiberglass walleye boat, 17' to 18'. So far, I've looked at web sites for Yar-Craft, Ranger and Skeeter to get an idea of what they have to offer. I don't have a Yar-Craft or Skeeter dealer near me.Any feedback on brands, quality and cost comparisons would be greatly appreciated.

JDL,
Check out trackermarine.com , I don't think you will find another 18'6" boat priced any better than these with all the standard equipment you get with it you can't go wrong. As far as quality you may not find another boat with better besides maybe Ranger.
If your interested i have a great dealer here in my hometown in North Dakota. Any questions e-mail me at cdodgson@daktel.com

Too bad you don't have dealers close enough to look at some boats. I would not buy anything unless I could look it over carefully and compare it to others. Obviously, you have to look over the condition of the boat you are buying and run it before handing over your cash, but, as importantly, you have to look over different boats and think about how you will be fishing out of them, # of people you will fish with, using for trolling or mostly family outings, etc, you get the picture? Envision how the people will fit and move around the boat, where you will stow your gear, general comfort of passengers while travelling from spot to spot on the lake. Make sure the boat is near the max power recommended for the boat. If you are planning to have this boat for a while, take your time and avoid dissapointment later.
All of the boats you mentioned are fine boats, what you have to do is match your style and needs to your purchase. Once you decide what layout works for you, your decision will be easy.
Hope this gives you some food for thought,
Good luck,

All three boats are great performers. I ran Yarcraft for 9 years, and now own a Ranger. My fishing buddy has run Skeeters for 7 years and will proably buy another. I like all three boats and we have not had any problems with any of the brands. I switched to the Ranger for the interior layout. Ranger might have a better resale value, but right now with all the deals on WC classifieds you should have the buyers advantage. If you mention what state you live in, I bet alot of local sellers would invite you for a look/see and a ride on the water. With a used boat, I would be more concerned about having a motor dealer close by versus the boat dealer. If there is any problems with the boat, it most likely showed up in the first year and has been corrected.
Good luck with your purchase.
