Can someone give me a few tips for fishing lake Erie and lake Onterio? I am in Syracuse New York for the summer working and I pulled my boat out here with me. I have been fishing on lake Onieda since I got here and am bored. Any Info on what landings to use, Where to start my search on the water, ect. would be very much appreciated. Also if there is someone from this area that is a hard-core fisherperson and would like to go out on the water with me, let me know and maybe we could get together.... Thanks!!!

Oneida can be tough, but there are some nice eyes to be had there. I fished it last Sunday and caught a 19# carp, but I know there are walleyes there! It's better suited for me later in the summer because I'm mainly a troller. They're still in shallow right now. From Syracuse, if it's not too late, you're best bet for Big walleyes would be Oswego. The mouth and river produce some monster eyes. If Jersey John sees this post, I know he can offer some expert advice on that area. The mouth and shoal areas of the St. Lawrence are also good, as is the Black River area, but I've never hit big numbers there..just big fish! It's a bit early for "our" end of Erie, but if you're interested in the NY waters..shoot me a note..that's my passion! Let me know if I can help. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Hi fool,

I'm a Syracuse resident. The bite on onieda is shallow right now, jig/minnow in the shallow bays with new weed growth. The nite bite along the shore line has also been good. I got news yesterday of an angler on the north side of the lake ( Cleveland area) caught and relesed a 10# fish. there are some big ones in there. Sorry, I'm not much help on the big lakes because I have a small boat and seldom venture out on Ontario, but sluggo is right, Oswego is a good bet right now. Wrights landing marina right in the city of Oswego is an excelent place to launch and it's right at the mouth of the river. From what I hear the brown trout trollers are taking quite a few big walleyes while trolling the shore line. If i can help further shoot me an email.

Hey Sluggo.... Is the east end of Onieda the best place to be? that is where I have been fishing the last couple of days.. Is there a good landing up in Oswego? I think that I will head up there this weekend one day. If you see me out on Onieda come say hi.. I am running a green 1990 tuffy with a merc on it. (Probaly the only boat out there with Minnesota lic. on it...) Thanks for the post.

Hey fishinfoolinminn..... drop me an email...tried to mail you when you asked this 2 months ago and today...your email dosent work..

I've got a retired friend in that area that knows where every walleye in NY state resides, he fishes 4-7 days a week. Regulary catches 10#+ fish there.

Thanks for the Info.. I went up to Onterio this afternoon and fished until about 2:00 this morning. I caught two out in front of the nuke plant and had it all to myself. Then I moved into the river and played bumper boats and caught 4 of them up by the bridge. One was 26". Not bad for the first time out there. I had the best luck on a "Clown" #18 rap. The Coast Guard checked me out and told me that I could'nt troll next to the wall of the channel. Whats up with that? I think that I will sleep in and then go hit Onieda agian tommorow and then Onterio all day Sunday and Monday. Is there anywhere else on Onterio that I should check out? If you guys see me and the tuffy out there this weekend make sure that you come say hi... Thanks agian..

Hey Sluggo.. what a bummer nice long holiday and you get stuck the weekend. Just got back from Chautauqua, fished all day for just 1 walleye bite but watta bite. 27.5" don't know what she weighed as I couldn't find the scale. This 1 day a week fishing makes it pretty tough to stay with the fish.

I see you were on the Oswego river, clown is working great. I took 20 eyes in the river and harbor over memorial day weekend. Most of them on chart. color # 18 rapalas. If you are going to be fishing this weekend let me know as I will be up there on the 1st of June for 2 nights. Good luck, I have a black 18 ft. targa, with NJ numbers on it, and will have 3 guys in it this weekend. Talk to you later. JJ
