I bought a 2001 Ranger Fisherman 681 VS this winter and got it wet for the first time last week down on Cave Run in Kentucky. I love the boat, but would like to use some of the livewells for DRY storage. The front baitwell and side musky livewell filled with water when I ran the boat with the switch in both the "empty" and "recirc" postions. The only other position left to try is "auto". Do you think this is operator error (If so, how do I fix it?), or do I have a valve problem that needs to be checked out? Thanks!
Just put a screw in plug in the fill tube. Problem solved.

I think you have a valve problem. I was trying to remember how they are routed through the valve, however I know that if they are not positioned right you can get so weird flows. I will look tonight.

O.K. if I am going to get water entering throught he standpipe when moving the boat in reverse (unloading from trailer, etc.) what is the best way to plug the pipe? Any suggestions before I head to the hardware store? Thanks.

Hi Jlong,
I am not sure what you mean by "standpipe". Is that the livewell "drain" hole? If so, would not one of the several standard-sized boat plugs with the flip-lock lever work as a plug?
Just a thought.
A day spent fishing does not count against one's alloted life span
I would think the stand pipe is threaded and removable. If it isn't neatly cut it about 2" above the bottom of the tank, and glue in a cap. Make sure you leave it long enough to cut off the cap and glue in a coupling, if you'd (or someonre else) wants to revive the live well. If ther are other inlets and outlets plug them as well, just in case.
