We purchased a 12 foot Avion with a 9 horse motor for fishing some of the smaller lakes and rivers. I would like to have a inexpensive sonar that would just tell me the depth. I could mount the transducer near the motor. Any ideas on brands? Cabelas has a Bottom Line bare bones model for $69.99 plus shipping.
Also, do they make a small deep cycle battery to run just the sonar. I seem the recall seeing them in Cabelas some time ago.
Thanks for the help.

You can buy a small motorcycle battery pretty cheap. Works great, and only needs to be charged once a year if your only going to run a depth finder with it.

Gander Mountain carries a small twelve volt battery with charger for 20$ makes a greatcamcorder battery also. Eagle sells the several new economical units, some that give more power and temp in the transducer, in my mind the second most important feature a sonar can provide you would be tempature especially in small shallow waters.
