Does anyone have any experience with the alumacraft Navigator 165? How about the Lunker 165? How does each boat handle and what 4 stroke motor to place on each? How about availability of used for?

Thanks,

Tim

Bought one late last summer. Great layout, great ride. Have tiller. Would recommend, based on experience last year, going with at least a 50 hp on the back - you will appreciate the difference with full livewell and company. Rated for 60hp, I think. I've got 50 hp Yamaha tiller, 4 stroke which will be mounted soon to replace 35 hp two stroke I started with. Many here can say, "I told you". Was advised to go with 4 stroke, higher hp and didn't, so am paying for it a little bit, but not as bad as some - have some good help in the motor department. Based on research and info from others am confident the 50 hp will troll down where I like it, and have no doubt will provide plenty of punch otherwise. Also, am looking forward to convenience of gear shift on tiller handle and the quiet. As opposed to the next step up for Alumacraft, feel the Navigator is plenty wide and am just as happy not to have my depth finder restricted to a compartment - though I'm sure there are advantages to that. I think the seat pedestals may have been upgraded since my model year, which is 2000, as I'm not big on how they operate, but then it's a boat, not a luxury car. Rod lockers are great and I like the location of the live well. After comparisons with similar sized boats from other manufacturers, really thought this was a great value and didn't feel I was sacrificing anything in terms of what I was looking for. You will want wave wackers on the back. I looked hard at the Lunker, but just wasn't comfortable with the live well setup and putting the boats side by side, with my kids in each and comparing the room and being able to get around, there just wasn't any comparison. Always a matter of personal taste and budget, but I really felt for my needs, in the long run, the Navigator was the choice.

I think you'll find the Navigator more stable and roomier than the Lunker. I think that and the Magnum are a good compromise between larger and smaller boats.
