Just put a 75hp. 4 stroke Merc. on an Alumacraft tourney pro 175 tiller. Would appreciate any info. or ideas as to what the best prop. would be for this application, such as 3 or 4 blade, as well as what pitch. What mph could I expect from this combination. Can hardly wait for the ice to go out so I can try it out. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would think that a Merc 3 or 4 blade with the vent holes open would be a great place to start. Since the 4 strokes don't rev as fast as 2 strokes, you should get a leg up by having the vent holes allowing the blades to slip a bit(hole shot).

I'm currently running a Michigan Wheel Rapture 15" pitch blade on my Lund Angler. I just installed it and have only had the boat out once so I can't give any specific details on the performance. Last year I ran a Mercury 3 blade Black Max aluminum 15" pitch. It would run in the upper 30's with just me and my gear, mid thirties with two people and gear. Hole shot was acceptable. I just got tired of fixing props. Aluminum bends at the slightest touch.

Fred,

I am currently considering getting the 15 inch pitch Rapture prop and share your attitude about repairing aluminum props.

Is there a removeable plastic insert inside the hub of the Rapture prop like the Mercury props ?

Does the hub construction of the Rapture look like the prop can strike something while turning and slip enough to avoid damaging the lower unit of the engine ?

Thanks,

Chuck C.

Hi Chuck! The Rapture does have a system whereby the prop will slip on the hub if you hit something. It's not plastic but rubber I believe. A friend put one on his 115 last year and it worked out great for him, so I thought I'd give it a try. I hope to get the boat out this weekend where I can really open it up and see if the Rapture improves the performance any.
