Also wayyyy off base, but I trust the opinions of people here. I am looking for a 9mm handgun. No not for home protection or anything like that. I want to shoot some targets at the local range and cans out at the farm. I am looking at the Beretta 9mm 92S and possibly considering the Glock (don't like the workings of the safety etc), a Ruger and a Stig arms. What do you think? Likes, dislikes etc. I have limited experience with auto hand guns, I have owned 6 shooters in the past, including a .44 Ruger hand Cannon, er, Redhawk. Too big, scares the he*L outta everyone at the range when I squeeze off a round. Thanks

Hey Paizono:
I got to use the Bereta 92S while in the Navy and it is an very good and reliable weapon. At least it was over 20 years ago :-) I don't know how the newer models are.
My personal favorite though is still my S&W model 39. Not a high capacity weapon like the 92S but it still fits my hand well and will drive tacks out to 50 yds.

I have a Sig P239. 8 in the mag and 1 in the hole. Not a lot of them were bought, but I got mine 3 years ago for about $430. I have relatively small hands for a 6 foot guy and the P239 fits my hand perfectly. I'm not the world's best shot by any means, but the Sig re-acquires target so fast and is so accurate, I can put 9 shots into an 8 inch circle at 30 feet in about 6 seconds. Sigarms makes wonderful weapons.

Note that both the former responses mentioned how the gun fit their hand. This is all important. Of slightly lesser importance is the safety method used. I'm a 1911 45ACP kind of guy, licensed & carry cocked and locked. When one of my daughters needed a defensive pistol, she chose a S&W 3913 LadySmith 9mm. The decocker, double action, magazine interlock and the smaller grips all made the decision for her. Fortunately, we shopped at a real gun shop where the staff was knowledgeable (daughters never believe the old man) and patient enough to let her try almost everything in stock to find the grip that fit. Goody for Dad, it was almost the most expensive pistol in stock.
