Purchasing 1st gps unit need help

I am purchasing my first gps unit and am having trouble finding the right one. I am some what parcial to eagle/lawrance but would consider others. Was looking at the new Ifinder from eagle , but have heard they have problems with the unit:o. the next one down would be the globlemap 100. the trouble to is that when i go to look at them the people at the stores cant seem to tell me much about the differenes. so i need all the help and input i can get on all brands even if its the ones to stay away from

I would look for one that has the plotter feature. Very useful when trolling. The map units are nice, but I don't think they all offer the plotter feature.
