Hi,

What do you guys/gals use to waterproof your boat cover. I have a canvas one and am looking at doing this. I bought some stuff Called Isso Water Repellent, but looks like it would take a gallon of the stuff to do the whole tarp. I have a 17 1/2' boat. For 22oz of the Isso it was $13.00. So looking for other options.

Thanks

I've always used a product called Aqua-tite. It's available in an upolstery supply catalog. Ask about it in a good upolstery shop, and yes, your cover will take a full gallon if you do 2 coats. Make sure it's clean and dry and there's no wind when you spray it. Use a garden sprayer that has alot of pressure and use a step ladder so you can get above the boat so the treatment can cover more even. This stuff is expensive, but it should last for a couple of years, even if your boat is stored outside.Let it dry completely before taking the cover off. I also use it to waterproof my tackle boxes, rain suits, etc.

I have a flybridge with a TON of canvas, which I treat annually. I use Starbrite canvas cleaner and then Starbrite Canvas waterproofing. It has worked well. My opinion: canvas is so expensive to repair or replace, I'll spend the extra $25.00 a year to get a few more years out of the canvas.

Believe it or not, just use Tompkins water seal. It is a silicone based product just like the rest. You can buy it cheap at any home improvement store. Check a small spot first to make sure it will do no harm but I haven't heard of it harming anything yet.

I used "Starbrite Water Proofing" with teflon. Starbrite makes many boat cleaning products. I used it on my canvass bimini top, and it stopped the seapage. A 22 oz bottle was around $8.00 from Walmart.

Take a look at this website: www.outbacktech.com
I think you will really like this product. Purchase the liquid and put it into a spray bottle for your cover.
GREAT Stuff, I use it to restore my goretex raingear, boots, hats, there is nothing out there that this product won't work on.
