View Full Version : painting lures
looking for some advise on the proper way to paint up some crankbaits to my favorite obsolete pattern. Is it best to airbrush and what type of prep. is needed. Looking for advise. Thanks, Bill

Although undoubtley an airbrush job looks better. I have a certain lure/color combo that I do with model car paint - some of them look downright ugly - but the fish don't seem to care.
It's basically a firetiger pattern I use - I'm sure that some subtle belend - combo - of yellow - green - red & orange at time might be better than the orginal I copied - I stick to more or less the orginal.
The great looking paint jobs probably attract more fisherman than fish.
Now if I could do CHROME....

Besides model paint the hard drying nial polish works great. I walk rip rap and pull old faded banged up lures and refinish them. Don't always look great but the paint jobs last longer then my interest in fishing them sometimes.
