Does anyone have any experience with Invader downriggers? I bought 2 of them from a clearance bin last fall before Relo Sports closed down. I don't think this brand is being manufactured anymore. As far as I can tell the only way to free spool the downrigger reel is to partially unthread the handle on the shaft by turning it counterclockwise while holding the reel. This appears to loosen a type of simple clutch mechanism consisting of a couple of washers with a fiber washer sandwiched between. You then re-engage the clutch by turning the handle clockwise tightening the washers.

Is this the correct way to operate these things or am I missing something? Also, if anyone has a parts diagram or operating manual which shows how all of the washers are assembled I would appreciate getting a copy. I can get both downriggers to operate but they are assembled in 2 different ways so I don't know which is correct.

I bought a pair many years ago and still use them, although very infrequently, as I don't use downriggers very much at all. I always liked their simple setup. They seemed to produce very little torque on the bases. You are correct in the use of the clutch mechanism. The did make a one handed clutch in later production models. They were a division of a company by the name of K-Line Industries. I don't know if the are in business any longer. The last address I had was 315 Garden Ave., Holland, Mi. 49423, Tel # (616) 396-3564

This is right out of the Holland phone book. I beleive they are still in production and that they are a Division of K-Line Ind.'s. They should at the least be able to get you a service manual for parts diagram you are looking for.
