I am debating on what GPS for my boat, I already have the X-15 without the gps module and am wondering if I should just purchase the Lowrance LMS 160. How do you people out there like the way the new X-15 GPS works? Any problems? How is the detail? Information would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

If I had it to do again I would purchase a seperate stand alone GPS unit. I have the x-15 with the gps and it works great, but I would prefer to be able to keep my full screen on my fishfinder and a full screen on my Gps when trolling. I also haven't been able to fiqure out how to put the speed up on the screen when running in the split screen mode. I am going to give it a couple more trips to try and adjust to it, if not, I will purchase a seperate unit.

Thanks,

Hi skor,

You pose a tough choice. I have the X-15 with the gps package. It is the first mapping software gps that I have had and am happy with its basic operation. I wish that Lowrance had more choices when it comes to mapping software. Navionics is the only available option. I do have four of there lake's and they seem to be lacking a lot of the detail available on software from Lake Master (lakemaps.com). Perhaps in the future the Lake Maps charts will be available for the X-15. I have not had any problems with the operation of my unit but have had some problems working with the Map Create 5 software. Another thing that I would like to see is a software update that would alow the asignment of numbers to waypoints. As it is, the waypoints are accessed by name only. I think that the waypoint management is nicer with the LMS 160. I too wonder if I shouldn't have bought the X-15 sonar only and the LMS 160. The X-15 sonar is fantastic. Feel free to drop me an e-mail with any specific questions you may have. Take Care. Tom
