O.k. Guys/Gals...I've been puzzled by my motor for a while, trying to quiet it down at idle. I have an 86 Evinrude 6. It has a baffle in front of the carb. Can those go bad? To me it seems it would not since there is nothing in it....at least to my knowledge.
I've replaced side exhaust gaskets, exhaust housing gasket and so forth, but no change in decibels.
Reason I ask is that my father has the same engine and his (which has had less use) is so quiet as compared to mine. It's a highly noticable difference. Neither of the motors have any foam on the inside of the engine cover either...they are clean as a whistle.
