I've a 17' Lund that may grow to 18.5 in two years. I will be getting a little bit of a bonus in a couple weeks, and am thinking about a 4 stroke kicker that I can move to a 12' Jon Boat once in a while. The question is, Should I go 9.9 or 15 hp?

The thing is, that many of the available 9.9's and 15's are built with the same powerhead and are the same engine with different carbs and tuning. So why not give yourself the advantage of the extra horsepower without any weight penalty. The difference in money isn't all that much either. So for my money, especially with muti functions possible, go with the 15. The only concern about a 15 h.p. would be if you fish on lakes with a posted 10 h.p. max or something like that.
