Just a reminder to everyone with a transom mount trolling motor to doublecheck that it is up before hitting the throttle!! There is a nice Maxxum 74# now residing on the bottom of Mille Lacs up on the north mud!! Bent the snot out of the Wave Wacker it went through on the way out the back! On one up note, I will be in Walker Thursday, so I'll be able to stop right into Reeds!
ALWAYS doublecheck that TM!

You are not alone. Thankfully, all I did was bend the angle adjustment bar which I was able to bend back. A sickening feeling though. Bummer and my condolences.

Doh! That had to hurt. How did the fish bite go?

The fish bite went slow! Wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong technique....
I had a hard time fishing Sunday, as every time I tuned around and saw the big void space on the transom, I wanted to puke!
Managed nine on Saturday with three keepers, and four on Sunday pulling cranks before I had had enough!

Don't forget to check your insurance. Mine is all risk, and would cover it. At $900, that a big hit, although I've been there myself.

Don't feel bad Dave, done it ONCE myself. The cast bracket broke right in half, but the wacker caught the head of the motor long enough for me to grab it before she went under. Embarassing though as many people watched, with a snicker under thier breath I bet.

I hear ya, David
My insurance would cover it, but I'm able to save the Wavewacker (bent the metal, which I was able to bend back) so I'm looking at just the motor, which would end up being a $300 claim after my $100 deductible. I've already made a claim for some water damage this past winter, and they put a new roof on my house two years ago, with no increase in rates. My gut tells me to pay the $300 and chalk it up to a lesson learned!!

Do you need another half of a bracket? :)

I was dumb enough to do it twice. I was lucky enough that the bracket didn't break off so I still had the motor. $100 bucks both times. MinnKota puts a plastic bar in most of their other models. So the bar breaks first. They cost about a $1 including spring and clip. I don't know why this same system can't be included in the 74 pounders. I'm going to email them.

Friend of mine that used to fish there alot put 2 brand new St Croix rods on the bottom. He was drifting with bouncers and was busy filling the pee can when he snagged both rods and pulled them over.

Sorry but I disagree. You pay insurance for insurance. Boat owners especially is a good deal because it's cheap. Assume your insurance goes up 10% surcharge for the next 3 years, that's probably still less than $60.00. I doubt it will go up at all and your homeowners claims should have nothing to do with it. On my last boat I had 2 claims, a $3750 blown motor because I ran into a plastic bag and $1400 because I have an idiot friend who decided to try to pull my boat up the landing without it being on the trailer. Neither one caused any increase in my premium. At $200/year I just paid for 25 years of it. I say go for it and make them earn your money! Good luck

You are not alone.. I broke a mount one year and last year lost one alltoghter. This year I am running a vantage.. One nice thing about it is the way the mount is built. I agian this year forgot and the motor just swung up out of the water.. no harm done. Still a sickning feeling though.

Dave sorry to hear of your loss it's almost like a death in the family.
Just a little early for the deep flats or what.
I was on Lake Miltona just north of Alexandria and did well on the shallow flats with long thin gold cranks on boards and long lining down the drop to 10' deep, man it was fun. About 1/2 the bites were slimers but in the dark we were excited no matter.
Maybe now you can get the Vantage for the transom that you want and dream about.LOL
