LAST EDITED ON May-29-01 AT 08:37PM (CST)[p]Looking for decent baitcasting reel under 100.00. Kind of partial to Shimano, but interested in comments on the Pinnacle I saw in the Cabalas for 50.00,or the Quantum, or any other comments on others. Would use for casting bigger cranks etc. Going to put it on 7' St Croix med/hvy Premier rod. Also need it to available in a lefty version.

Thanks and Good luck,moreyes

No question; Abu Garcia 5501C3. Readily available, priced right, parts are easy to get, full line of lefties, reliable...

I realize you said under $100, however I believe it's very hard to beat the Shimano Curado 201 at about $120. It would also match up nicely to the St. Croix rod. The low profile also fits in the hand well if you like to palm the reel. Just my opinion. Good Luck! Fred

I'm extremely pleased with my Pinnacle Deadbolt LTD spinning reels. I'm going to try one of their baitcasting reels as soon as I have the opportunity. Abu Garcia and Shimano make excellent baitcasting reels and you couldn't go wrong there, but for $50, you might want to try the Pinnacle.

I like my Curado.....for bass fishing - not walleyes. It doesn't have a flipping switch for use w/ bouncers or pulling three ways.
I have a bunch of Quantums which have held up well. For a pure Walleye reel under $100, I really like the Diawa PS2-5B. Kind of hard to find but worth the effort. Lefty crank, flipping switch and back reel switch(pray that you'll need it some day!!) I haven't used them for a lot of casting though so I can't really comment there. I guess if I had to pick the most versatile all-around, I'd go with the $80 +/- Quantum. If you are only going to cast with it - then the Curado.

If your interested, I have a Quantum EX501CX bait casting reel, which is the left handed model. I'm not using it and I can let it go at a reasonable price. If interested, you can e-mail me at aschoessow@aol.com, I am located in Wisc.

Abu-Garcia 5500C-3. I use them for everything from bass to muskies. Very smooth, great drag, tough as nails. Beav

second the motion on the Abu-Garcia. I picked one up this past winter and it's a great reel and reasonably priced.
