Just got my new 1800 fisherman with a 175 FICHT and a 15 HP 4 stroke kicker. Here is my question. The dealer sold me the boat (2002) with new 2001 motors on it. When I got the boat home I looked and both motors show a Sept. 2000 date on them. I am wondering if these are still considered a 2001 motor or I should be complaining to the dealer. I was hoping for motors that were at least made after bombardier took over. Have not been able to get out yet as the lakes are still frozen here.

Henry,
Sept 2000 = 2001 model year. Bombardier took over control of OMC assets in the first quarter of 2001. The first Bombardier made motor (2002) was produced on Sept 27th 2001 in the new Sturtevant, Wisconsin plant.
I thought that the Bombardier made motors have a Bombardier sticker on the back of the cowling.
In any case the 2001 Ficht is a great engine, and should serve you well!

Look at the model number to verify model year. Your 175 probably has a model number something along the lines of E175FPLSIF or E175FSLSIF. They use the the word INTRODUCES and the next to the last 2 letters of the model number to ID the model year. Example:
I - N - T - R - O - D - U - C - E - S
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 0
Therefore, EE=1999, SS=1000, SI=2001, SN=2002 and so on.

OOPS!!! SS is supposed to be 2000, not 1000 (typo)...

Just like any Ford, Chevy, or Dodge vehicle built in Sept. 2000, they would be 2001 models. Most of "next years" products are produced starting in the month of July.
If it is manufactured by Bombadier,it will have their logo on the back of the cowl.......
and I thought that they didn't start delivering the new ones of the smaller sixes until the last part of March THIS year.

Henry, I just got my new 175 Ficht and used it saturday. An awesome motor. The manufacturing date on mine is April 2002 on the engine. I would question the dealer on this one. There have been at least 35 changes to the 2002 Fichts over the 2001 including larger gearing in the lower housing. Hope this helps.

Henry, the 2001 fichts are great engines. Did not mean to imply they are not. I just opted for the newer engine. My partner has a 20 ft Grady white that he has been running a 150 Ficht on and the motor is flawless.
