View Full Version : vro warning and a weezing sound

i have a 1999 johnson 40 hp tiller vro. i am getting the ' NO OIL WARNING " at high speed , after i run it a mile or two . i don't know if it is related or not , but i am hearing a 'wheezing' sound every few minutes. sounds like i have a dove living either in my oil tank or portable gas tank????????

DON't run your engine any more - until you get it fixed!!!


It is likely that you have a real oil lubrication failure. If you continue to run your engine this way - if you haven't already - you are going to melt down or score a cylinder from lack of oil.

Take it to a "good" dealer with a "great" mechanic and get it fixed properly - before you ruin a perfectly excellent engine.

i just baught the 99 40 hp johnson last month . so i called the dealer and the rude mechanic said put 100 to 1 in my portable gas tank and mark my oil tank and see if i am actually useing the oil or not. hows this sound ? ok ??

During break-in, it is recommended that you use 50:1. If the motor is broken in properly, you should be able to use the 100:1, but I would play safe and go with 50:1. Your engine will run a little rich and smoke a little more, but playing safe is better than running dry.

If you had just bought the motor, I would not even give the dealer the option. Get it done now...last thing you want is to get into the main portion of the season and have to take the rig in for work, but it cannot be looked at for a month due to the waiting list.

Been there...Weak or int. pump failure. Throw in a new pump ASAP....
