View Full Version : In line planer boards
I need advice on in line planer boards please. As far as ease of use, reliability and most of all fish catchability, what brands do you recomend? Any info is appreciated. Good fishing to all.

Willie, Yellow Bird, Church Tackle (Roach board),& Off-Shore are the 4 most common. My preferance is the Off-Shore because of Tattle flags, night light options and they simply work good. Go to their web site, or click on their name under sponsors and order their "Offshore Release" a very informative tabloid they put out. FREE. Good luck!!
I have the Roach boards and have been very satisfied with them. I was wondering if anyone has a system for adding the "tattle flags" to them? Can the Offshore flags work on them? Thanks, EJ

I've used modified yellow birds for years and have had great luck with them. First they're lighter than other boards yet they go out to the side as well, with a larger fish on you can pick the board up out of the water at a greater distance which in my case has helped bring more fish to the boat instead of them "leveraging" off by using the board or charging the board. I replace all the clips with downrigger releases. They hold on to fireline well and are alot easier to grip with frozen fingers. I think the best "out of the box" board would have to be Gary Roach's. I also paint all my boards hot florescent pink. Hope this helped.

My vote is for the Off Shore boards. They are easy to use. The Tattle Flags are a great addition to the board. I'm sure you have read here before, how the flags let you know when your dragging a small fish, or have weeds on your baits. Depending on the waters you fish, you have the option of changing releases on the boards to suit your needs. The system doesn't get any easier than this one. Like ETT said, check out the Off Shore site by clicking on their logo from the Mainpage.
Good Luck,

I also vote for off-shore. The flag makes them easier to see and read in choppy water and lake erie waves. I would suggest changing the stock clips to or-16 heavy tension clips also from off shore so you do not lose boards.
good luck.
