anyone know what would be top speed in general ?
I had a lunker tiller with a 40 horse merc and she would hit 38-39 MPH on a calm day. You would be in the low 40's witha 50 on

NO WAY!!
A Lunker with a 40 will tickle 30, downstream with a tailwind!!
I have a 1999 Lunker V 16 Ltd tiller it weighs 660 lbs. The 1999 Merc 50 hp 2 stroke has a custom 15P Vengeance SS prop and pushes a light load and me [180 lbs] to 37 MPH on GPS. The motor is set as high as it will go. It turns 5400 RPM.
My apologies if this was in error. My speed came from my depthfinder, not a GPS readout. My speed was showing with just myself in the boat.

Skis.....no prob. A GPS will make every boat go slower!!
I wish my old Lunker went that fast!!
I have a 99 Lunker also with a 50 johnson. I am in the third hole up, turning a 17 pitch cupped at 5400 and getting 36.
When the boat is tweeked as best it can be, the best you would ever see would be 35 - 37 mph.

I don't have it any more. Sold it 2 falls ago and bought something bigger for fishing on the river!
Just thought I better clarify my post!:)
Jack,
What did you have done to your prop? and what gear ratio does your motor have?
I'm jealous that you have that extra mph :-)
Sorry about the belated response but I just returned home from God's Country and I don't have my inter-net service reconnected yet up there . I had D.A.H. Props in Rochester Wi. rework my prop . It was progressively pitched and deeply cupped and polished to a mirror finish . He has worldwide accounts so you can send him your prop with a discription of your boat and what you want and he'll take care of you satisfaction guaranteed . Anymore questions e-mail me . Jack
