I have a Shorelandr trailer with bearing buddies, when is the proper time to add grease and what type is the best to use? Can to much grease be added that could blow the bearing seal?

Proper time to add grease is when the zerk plate is not squishy...the spring has pushed the plate as far as it can go. You should add just enough to get the plate to move outward, against the spring tension. that way, the spring will push the grease into the bearings as needed.

too much grease in the hub will cause premature failure of your rear seals. Only put enough grease in to do the job, and repack the bearings in the fall, just in case water did get into the hub.

As for grease to use, anything that is high temp bearing grease is good. make sure to read the labeling on the grease to make sure it is compatible with other brands and that it is designed for wheels.

If I were to pick a brand, I would go with plews, but it seems noboby is selling that grease up this way (MN) anymore.

Yup, you CAN add too much grease. I did with my first set. It sends grease all over the inside of the wheel as you are pulling the boat and, of course, the bearing is no longer water-proof. Like the first post said, just add enough so that the "cover" with the zirk fitting just moves slightly. VERY SLIGHTLY.
