I think it's about time that this great site and it's members are treated to smallmouth.com, to address the growing number of us who find this community of anglers to be the best source of information for both walleye and smallmouth fishing on the internet. I was very happy to see the Musky site, so how about them smallies?
What do you all think of that???
Now you've got me curious??? Obviously this was Walleye central first so how did Musky Central come to be? And why Musky Central? Maybe I'm wrong but I think the number 1 game fish in the country is Bass????? Oh, and yeah I'd like a smallmouth board but I don't know if the Zach and Scott have the time? They probably don't get out enough to fish now... :-)

I'm sure they don't have the time. I think, and please don't everyone jump on me for this, that we should maybe pay a fee to use this board on an annual basis. Maybe $20 per year? With all of the great info and people present, I wouldn't hesitate to do it. It takes an awful lot of time and energy, as well as money, to keep a board like this going. Shouldn't we conrtibute a bit???

If you're a vendor, yes, please do contribute by advertising. But I am against paid-access Web sites, and I think it would be the downfall of this great board.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-24-00 AT 07:40PM (CST)[p]Hey Gunga Din,
I too am a BIG fan of vendor support by advertising.(Obviously ;-) ) I also would not hesitate to pay an annual membership, but I do think it would take away from the real beauty of this board and make it just one more thing we have to pay for in this day and age.

That's a good point. The vendor income should be good if the site is well visited and maintained. I can't imagine if I was a member of many sites, and paying $100's a year for it. That might get tiring, and decrease a sites hits, consequently creating less vendor interest.
Good fishin'

I wouldn't hesitate paying NOW, now that I know what a great site this is and that it offers much more benefit than my any of my fishing magazine subscriptions. But being subscription-based would close the doors to newcomers--some who stick around and contribute, some who don't. The benefit of the Internet is the free exchange of information. And 99.9% of all browsers (users) would just click on by and never enter the site if a subscription were required.
Plus, if the site were to switch to subscription-based the income would be limited by the number of subscribers--limiting advertising too. But if you work on increasing the reader base, then you have leverage to bring in more advertisers and the potential for revenue is much greater in that arena.
Most computer magazines are free to readers, because you can charge more for advertising when you can prove to vendors how tightly focused your readership is. This analogy might not yet be true in the fishing industry, but I believe it will eventually.
This site has a huge potential for growth.
