Took the boat out yesterday to a local lake. Was going to try for bass, but since we are having unseasonal weather, with rain everywhere and snow at 4000' I ended up fishing for trout, so I could stay dry under the top. Remember some saying they locked the trolling motor straight and used the bow mount auto-pilot motor to keep you straight. Since it was a shakedown trip for the new T-8 (fantastic motor - would not start, but then found the pilot error: hook up fuel line ;) ) and 65AP. Locked T8 straight and used the 65AP as the guiding light. Works great. This is one of the Cabelas Bargain Cave Recon motors. Looked beautiful and worked great most of the day. Fell out of AP 2 times, but may be the batteries were getting low. Only problem is the mount I did is flexing, so have to put some aluminum spacers in place of the rubber spacers on the base mounting plate and maybe one more bolt. The base mounting plate holds the quick release plate which has the rubber donuts under it.
Was so nice to stay under the cover and use the remote for the AP to steer the boat. Did catch 2 trout, got one in the boat.
