Anyone know anything about the remote throttles by Troll Master? Going on a 9.9 Merc and trying to decide on Merc controls or the remote unit. Thanks!

I was going to use one. Got mine yesterday and started reading the material and in it stated something to the effect of "this product is water resistant not water proof, please keep out of direct water somethinorother". I thought in a downpoar will I have to put my remote control away somewhere to keep it from shorting out on me? I am sending mine back.

The Troll Master is a very good addition to your trolling arsenal. There are ways to protect the remote while fishing in the rain. The fact that I can use the Troll Master from the steering wheel, or not use the Troll Master and just steer with the kicker make this a very good addition to the boat.

Got to agree with TP. I have used the troll master for over a year now, and I really like the unit. Put velcro on the back of the controls and stick it to the side of the boat by the big motor controls. When it rains, put it under the console. Can also put a baggie over it, if you have too. Had the second control box for the kicker on my last boat, and like this setup better. Nice thing about the TrollMaster is I can take it off the motor if I ever sell the boat. Good luck with your decision and happy fishing.

I have had a Troll-Master for two years, it is worth every penny. I have not had any trouble with it getting wet. To be safe you could put it in a plastic bag and still operate it.

I've had mine for 3 + seasons and have had NO problems what so ever and I use mine A LOT!!! Ya know they say depth finders are water proof but how many of those do you see with fog on the inside of the screen. I've sat on lakes and rivers MANY times in normal rain to hard down pours. Mine is mounted in the area where my main motor throttle is. I have converted many a fisherman from the standard throttle controls you can use on a kicker to the troll-master. It still gives me a chuckle when I can make rpm adjustments of 20 at a time with this unit. You can't even come close to doing that with the normal throttle setup. I have added a small tach and I no longer rely on my gps digital readout for speed. I go by rpm. It's very easy to install as well as operate. Which ever way ya go Gilligan, GOOD LUCK!!! If you decide to go with this unit be smart and spend a little bit more and get the PRO model. Hutch

I have a Merc 15 H.P. tiller model. After installing the trollmaster, will I still be able to use the tiller handle for starting and adjusting the speed or does the trollmaster disconnect the tiller throttle linkage? Sounds like a needed addition either way for me.

Trollmaster has no effect on your starting or killing the motor it only controlls throttle position. When trollmaster is turned on you will be able to increase the speed of motor but won't be able to decrease lower than the trollmaster setting unless the trollmaster is turned off. But once off you will be able to operate motor just like normal as long as trollmaster was turned off with the throttle control at 0 setting or set to idle position(something I think the thing should do itself). Atleast that is the way it is with my Yama t-8.
