need some help here on this one.
Have an 824 autopilot that is suffering from Attention deficit disorder and is hyperactive as well. It does not want to listen to my commands to stay at a constant level. In fact, it seems to want to pick it's own speed at times. It wants to go slow, then a little faster, then slower again, but then when it doesn't want to do that anymore, then it is off and running at high speed. It tends to stay that way for a while, then if I shut it off, it will at least do that.
Here is what I have done to narrow the problem.
1, checked the foot pedal, cleaned contacts and retried. No change. Took brother-in-law's pedal and still no change. So foot pedal is fine.
2, checked the battery. I purchased a new battery, and since it was the only new thing, figured I better check it out as well. Unhooked new battery and hooked up to car battery for a moment. Still acting up.
3, Checked fuse. Fine, but replaced...still no change.
4, Checked all connections inside the motor. All looked fine.
Here is what I am thinking. A resistor has gone bad. My guess is that the variable speed control is done by a resistor, and when it goes, it will either resist too much, or not at all. Am I on the right track here? and, what kind of cost am I looking at to get it fixed?
Thanks much!!
