I need a new starting battery for my 90 HP Merc. What size (CCA) should I get? I can get a 650 CCA/800 MCA for a good price - would this be adequate for a 90 HP Merc?
Starting only? Do you run any accessories off the same?

Yes, it would also be used for pumps, sonar, VHF, etc.
Thanks
James,
For some reason it seems that any vehicle that is only used on the weekends ends up with a dead battery about 1/3 of the way through the season.
I've had onboard chargers in all of my boats and I still end up with a dead starting battery once in a while.
My suggestion, get a rather large battery, like a 1000, and check it once in a while.

I continue to recommend a deep cycle battery for starting/accessories applications.

You may want to concider a combination starting/Deep cycle.
Some say that they are better suited to the slow constant drain of the accessories.

I have a 1000 cca truck battery in my boat which has a 70 hp johnson it was 5 years old when i got it and i have been using it for over a year in fact it barely lost any charge at all sitting over the winter they cost a little money to get but how much do you save replacing a 40 dollar one every year when this one is 6 years and still going
I had a 650 on my boat and it was NOT big enough. With the graph, lights,stereo,livewell...it went dead. I went to a 950 and no problems since. GET THE BIG ONE.
