cracking welds..how do you know?

I own a 2001 Crestliner Fishhawk and am hearing horror stories about cracking welds and short ribs. This may seem like a dumb question, but how do you suspect a cracked weld(s) without inspection? Can you hear the welds snap?

If you do not take on any water then your welds should be ok. Run a finger across them too feel for a rough line or jagged edge.

If you hear a snapping sound then I would suspect a crack or a loose rib that is flexing.
