Merc 90hp squealing

Anybody experience their Merc make a squealing noise after running at high speed? I have noticed this with my motor. It sounds like plastic parts rubbing. It goes away shortly (usually within 20 seconds) after throttling back to idle. It does it in neutral so it is the motor and not the gearcase. Any ideas appreciated.

I had the same problem with my 1999 merc 90 horse. The dealer tried just about everthing to try and fix it but came up empty. They said it was a bearing squealing and that it wouldnt hurt anything. I told them that I would not accept that. Finally after many weaks of complaining I got a 2001. So far this motor doesnt squeak.

My 1994 90 had the same problem. It did it for about 3 years ,then I sold it. It is still running fine as of last year when I saw the guy I sold it to at a local lake.

I have a 98 Merc75HP, mine squealed also sounded like a bad belt on a car. I can't remember exactly what dealer did but I think they lubed bearing?spindle? in lower unit, said it was dry and to see if that worked. It did and they said it would probably start squealing in a couple of years again. So far so good. Good luck.
