This is hard for me to write.....but I wanted to let you all know that we have lost a great fisherman and friend. Jeff Jertson, my guide, my fishing partner, my best friend, died of a massive heart attack Thursday morning while guiding on Lake Oahe. I know Jeff was well known and loved in the fishing world, and will me missed greatly by many. Take a moment, remember Jeff and all those "mighty anglers" ahead of him. If it weren't for them and people like them.......fishing would not be the same for most of us. I love you Jeff! Thank you for all you have taught me, and all you did for me........Angie
I am very sorry for your loss, and the loss to fishing.

Jeff was a man who would do anything for anybody and always had a nick name for you that made you feel like you were his friend.
He was my neighbor at New Everts and I will miss him a lot. He
was a true friend. He would share fishing tips as easily as lawn mowers and almost anything he had was yours also. It is very hard to think of New Everts and Lake Oahe without Jeff. I will miss you Jeff and will think of you each time I wet a line
in the ole swamp. God's speed my friend

Angie --
You and everyone else know how words are hard to come by for such instances, however, you will be in thought and prayers for your loss.
For whatever comfort it may bring, think of how Jeff died. He was doing what he loved. And, my guess is he went fast -- very little suffering. We all struggle to cope with loss, but we need to acknowledge the blessings we have had through folks such as Jeff who helped so many.

I met Jeff when I pre-fished with Pete Harsh prior to the PWT last fall. Pete said Jeff was the best chub fisherman he knew- which meant something coming from Pete. SD lost a heck of nice guy and fisherman. Both Pete and Jeff talked a lot about you, Angie, and I know think of you as a dear friend.
Peace be with you.

Angie:
Hope this finds you with our sympathy. I know that Jeff & you were of the best friends. I have known Jeff since the very early days of the MWC, and he was the best of the best. Jeff was the type of guy you could ask a question, like how is the fishing, and always get a straight answer. He will be missed by the Fishing world. Jeff was one of the "Best" live bait riggers in the country. I'm sure there are a lot of clients that Jeff has left great memories with. I know, having known Jeff, and seeing him put on a on-water clinic during many tournaments, kicking mine, and everyone else's butt, he will be deeply missed.
Angie, I was looking forward to fishing with you at the last PWT, until partners got messed up. Some day, we will get in the boat together, that's a promise!
Jeff, is now one of those clouds, hoovering over Oahe, a place he loved!
Sorry about your loss Angie, and take care, he will be missed by all!
Tight Lines Jeff,

Think not of how the man died but how he lived and how many peoples lives he has touched. He can now look down over the crowd of not just Oahe anglers but all of us and see how some of us were affected by his guidance and knowledge.
My heart-felt sympathy to all those who are affected by the loss of a true friend and God be with you all

The Fishermans Prayer.
God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day
And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray
When in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep
That in his mercy I be judged as big enough to keep.

Dear Angie,This has been a pretty tough few days. Although I hadn't seen Jeff in awhile, we spent many years together fishing and just being friends. Jeff was the best man in my wedding several years ago and we used to fish together every weekend for several years.I will miss him greatly and it is a loss to everyone that knew him. I just read your heartwarming messages to Angie about my brother Jeff. I must offer my thanks for your concern. Jeff was 7 years younger than me and would have been 56 on June 15. I still remember coming home from overseas on my 21st birthday back in th 50's and landing at Wold Chamerlain Field in Mpls.
My parents were there to meet me, but it was Jeff who ran out on the runway to greet me. He was about 14 then. I left MN in 1967 to move to Des Moines, IA for a new job. Jeff was in VietNam then. When he got out of the Army in 1968, he came down here to visit. He was just here again last December with my Mother and we had a good time. Thank God I got to see him shortly before his death. Evrybody loved Jeff and my family will miss him greatly. My Mother asked me to keep the flag from the military funeral and his friend Brad gave me his VFW jacket. I will keep them always.
Jeff's loving brother Larry
