View Full Version : Broken transducer cable on MK-PD.. Never Again!

After my third break I put a set of RCA jacks on the Lowrance transducer cable that is hanging in my Minnkota Power Drive.

Many times I could not hear the motor turning when I unintentially stepped on the foot pad and after 360 degrees os so I would rip the cable in 2.

I soldered in a pair of real nice gold plated RCA jacks from Radio Shack and covered each end up with shrink tubing. It looks great and performs perfectly.

I don't recall who suggested that but thanks!

are the rca jacks water proof?

One thing I was just told (after going through two transducers) is to NOT tie strap them to the shaft. Use #88 waterproof electrical tape instead. That way, if your head spins around the tape will give long before the cable stretches or breaks.

Sunshine, they might be, if you use die electric silicone/grease.

I used a nylon clamp which is secured to the bolt which holds the head of the motor to the shaft. Just pull it out, add the clamp and tighten. I can't remember but may have used a longer SS bolt. Anyway, put some silicone grease inside the clamp and the cable will slip away if needed but held securely when there is no pressure.

I have added dielectric grease to the gold plated RCA jacks. Since my cable was broke once again I decided to use the RCA jacks. Next time I will consider the other ideas brought forth here.

Thanks guys and gals,
