Den and others,

For those of you that fish Erie in the spring, I have seen a few posts about flutter spoons. I generally fish the Saginaw Bay in the Augres area but was wondering what the approach was, on Erie, for next year.
Are you using trout spoons such as the Stingers, Northport nailers, Diamond Kings, and Scorpions ? If so, which colors seem to produce best in general ? Do you like the smaller sizes or the 3-4" spoons or do the fish dictate the bait of the day ? Do you guys drop them on balls, dipseys, snaps, or run some near the surface?

Sorry about so many question. Just trying to improve my situation here for next year.

Thanks a bunch,

Steve

Spoons start working good about mid-May. Most productive are the Scorpions (only about 2-1/4"). Dipsys are the preferres presentation for the deeper water , but 20 Jets are easier for the 30 and up situation.

Colors, Hammered gold and copper have been the best blanks. Most popular colors are confusion, shrimp, light days, boy/girl, bumble bee, superman, blueberry muffin, cavorkian, motor oil, monkey puke, & more (I'm sure I'm leaving some out that I shouldn't). It seems to me that young of the year must be present to triger the Scorpion bite.

For Erie questions go boatohio, click on boating forums, then on ask the expert. Good luck. See you there.
