I have not fished Mille Lacs for about 8-9 years but will be there all next week.
I do not have an anchor suitable for Mille Lacs. The last time I was there I remember that bait shops seemed to carry the waterspike anchors but this board seems to think richter anchors are among the best.
Does anyone know who might carry richter anchors around Mille Lacs?
Also I have seen anchor ropes on Mille Lacs tied off the bow eye usually used for securing your boat to your trailer. There seemed to be a second rope tied to the anchor rope, this second rope looped back into the boat and I imagine it was to allow you to pull in your anchor rope until you could grip it directly without having to be an acrobat reaching over the bow to grab the anchor rope. How is this rigged?
Thanks
Jack

Tying the anchor off at the bow keeps your boat from drifting too far off the particular piece of structure your fishing. Most people also have grippers to tie the anchor off further down the sides of their boats. Remember, where you tie off the anchor allows the boat to move in a particular direction. For example; say y0our fishing a large reef and wish to move the boat 200 feet to the left. If you have any wind, you would tie your rope off on a cleat on the right side and , depending on how much rope you have out, you would be able to cover a lot more area with your presentation. Same goes for the other side. Also I use a 28 pound navy anchor, 5 feet of chain, and a 10 foot bungy type rope. You may find waterspike anchors have considerabe problems holdong in the mud on a windy day.

I just came back from a trip to mille lacs and would like to say that using the pro anchor from guidemasters I was able to hold in the very big winds all day. There were approximatly 4 to 5 footers out on the south end where we were today had no problem holding. It also came out of the rocks each time we repositioned on another part of the reef. As far as where to get them there is a list of dealers on there web page www.guidemasters.net. I think I remember seeing Eddy's resort on the list. Also good luck with the new slot that starts Tuesday EVERYTHING except 16"-18" must go back. That means no trophy. We caught ten walleyes only six in current slot 3 of those in Tuesdays slot.
Good luck

I Just got back from the PWT at mille lacs and lost a nice anchor to a sharp rock. Bought a Ricter anchor at Tutts bait shop and a anchor chain and I think its the best thing since sliced toast.

I was out in the rain on Fri. afternoon, wind was strong from the north and my river anchor with 5' of chain held great. Hooking off the front eye also helps lower the pull point and reduce the pull outs. Oh yeah, 2 of us caught 11 in 3 hours with 10 being over the slot and 1 being under. The largest was 26", (2) 24", and 7 between 20" and 23". No meat for the table, but a ton of fun anyway.

In the Mille Lacs area, Eddy's Resort carries ProAnchor by Guidemasters. Other dealers can be found on their web page: http://www.guidemasters.net/dealer.html
